Bayan
Bols
- These sequences help improve the quality of bayan bols.
- Choose a comfortable even tempo (40-60 bpm suggested) and
practice each sequence in double tempo.
- Play each sequence 20-30 times or as many times as your
time, energy (and patience) will allow.
- The words in the phrases are indicated by grouping bols
together in a single color.
- When shown with a subscript, e.g. Ge1, the bayan bol is played
with a single (index) finger. All other times the bayan bols are played with two
fingers (middle and ring together).
- Similarily Dha1 = Ge1 + Ta. Dhin1 = Ge1 + Tin.
- In the table below, each vertical bar indicates one matra
or beat.

16-beat sequence. Here Ke1 is
played with one finger (index). It can also be played as a muted Ge1 with
single finger (index). This will facilitate playing at higher speeds. Practice with both
the single-fingered Delhi style Ti as well as the three-fingered Purab style Ti
for TiTe. |
