About the artists:

Sisirkana Dhar Choudhury is one of the premier performers of Hindustani music on the violin. A disciple of Ustad Ali Akbar Khan for over thirty years, she is a respected concert artist who has also performed frequently for All India Radio and Television. She is a 1997 recipient of India’s prestigious Sangeet Natak Academy award for her contribution to the field of Hindustani classical violin. Sisirkana has had a distinguished career as Dean of Music at Rabindra Bharati University in Calcutta. Currently she is on the teaching faculty at the Ali Akbar College of Music in San Rafael, CA.

Uttam Chakraborty is one of the leading Tabla artists of India. His father Late Sunil Chakraborty and his uncle Late Professor Kebol Chakraborty instilled in him a keen sense of music since his childhood days. Uttam received his initial training from his father. Later he received extensive training from Pandit Swapan Chaudhuri - one of India’s most well known Tabla maestros. At present he is attached to the All India Radio and Doordarshan in Calcutta and is also a resident artist and teacher at the Ali Akbar College of Music in San Rafael, CA.
