About the Artists
Naadhayogi V V Subrahmanyam
A multifaceted musician, Prof. V V
Subrahmanyam popularly known as VVS is a violin
artiste, composer, scholar, educator, author,
innovator, and inventor. Legendary VVS
had his initial training under his father
Vadakkencheri Veeraraghava Baghavathar. His other
gurus are Tripunithura Sri. Narayana Iyer, Chembai
Sri. Vaidhyanatha Bhagavathar, Musiri Sri.
Subramanya Iyer & PadmaVibushan Dr. Semmangudi
Srinivasa Iyer.
An outstanding soloist and accompanist, VVS has
accompanied all the illustrious musicians of the
past. His genius is obvious in the purity of his
music, perceiving and playing melody as
inseparable with lyrical excellence, silky
bowing. As a soloist and accompanist, he has
toured all over India and abroad. He was the FIRST
INDIAN VIOLINIST to have performed in USA, and at
the UNITED NATIONS with Smt. M.S.
Subbulakshmi. He has widely traveled the globe.
Naadharasa-F
He won the special appreciation from the world
renowned Violin Maestro YEHUDI MENUHIN as, "Violin
Virtuoso Subrahmanyam", when he performed in the
EAST- WEST encounter held at New Delhi in the year
1964. He has also merited a mention in the book
"ETERNAL OF INDIA" by Smt. Indira Gandhi, Late
Prime-Minister of India. UNESCO released its first
ever South Indian Instrumental recording of
legendary VVS, a rarity. Legendary VVS has
received several awards and merits, to name a few
- "Naadha Yogi", "Naadhabrahmam", & the
Sangeet Natak Academy Award from the President of
India.
V V S Murari
A renowned violinist, composer and an
educator was born to the illustrious Violin
Maestro Prof. VVS. He comes from the great musical
lineage of Sri. Muthuswami Dikshithar and Sri.
Swathi Tirunal. He had his initial training from
his grandfather Vadakkencheri Veeraraghava
Bhagavathar, and later on from his legendary
father Shri. VVS. He also trained under the doyen
Padma Vibushan Dr. Semmangudi Srinivasa Iyer.
Murari has carved a niche for himself in the field
of South Indian classical music. With a musical
career spanning nearly three decades, since his
debut at the age of 10, Murari has been making
waves in the field of Carnatic music through his
aesthetic musical approach and remarkable violin
technique. He conceptualizes and executes his
style of playing in a way that stands as a pillar
of support in each concert. Murari has had the
privileged opportunities in sharing the stage with
various legendary musicians and percussionists
from an early age.

Murari is also known for his versatility,
especially his ability to present various genres
with precision and ease. Apart from classical
music, he has been composing music for dance
dramas, ballets, short films, and fusion/modern
music. He has worked on various projects with
world class musicians, music directors,
choreographers, and dancers and have been part of
many prestigious national & international
festivals. Murari is the founder and director of
VVS Foundation, imparting quality music education
(in person and online) to students across the
world.
Poovalur
Sriji
A prolific composer, performer,
educator, an 'A' top grade artist recognized by
All India Radio, studied South Indian Classical
music from his father P.A. Venkataraman. For
over three decades Poovalur has performed with
the leading artist from both South and North
Indian Classical traditions. Since his move to
the United States Poovalur has performed and
recorded with artists such as Sir Yehudi
Menuhin, Bela Fleck, Mark O’ Connor, John
Bergamo, Glen Velez to name a few.
Poovalur has composed several pieces portraying
the South Indian idioms. Poovalur has received
several awards from leading institutions, and
the album Tabula Rasa, where he has composed and
performed with Bela Fleck, V. M. Bhatt and J.P.
Chen was nominated for a Grammy.
He is the founding member of the group
'Brahmah'. He found and directs the 'SNEW' and
the 'South Indian Cross Cultural Ensemble'. He
is currently a faculty at the University of
North Texas. He has taught at Calarts and the
San Diego State University.
Tripunithura
Radhakrishnan
A top
ranking Ghatam player also the recipient of
prestigious “Kerala Sangeetha Nataka Academy
Award”. He is a Lecturer in Mridangam at the
R.L.V. College of Music & Fine Arts,
Tripunithura.Passed Ghanabooshanam (Mridangam)
and Gana Praveena (Mridangam) with First Class
from S.S.T. Music College, Trivandrum, Govt. of
Kerala. Stepped in to this music field through
his father, who was his first Guru. He is also
the disciple of Shri Parassala Ravi and
Padmabhooshan T.V. Gopalakrishnan.He started
accompanying from the age of 11. He has shared
stage with stalwarts of yesteryear, and present
day illustrious and popular musicians.
