Artists
E R Janardhan
E R Janardhan was born in a family of
musicians in 1974 at Eluru in Andhra Pradesh.
His father Shri Ramba Satyanarayanamoorthy was
Saxophone artist and performed on All India
Radio, Vijaywada. At the age of seven
Janardhan moved to Chennai and started
learning Guitar & Mandolin from his Guru
Shri. Rudraraju Subbaraju. E R Janardhan gave
his first stage performance on mandolin &
guitar at the age of 10. Between the years of
1989 and 19194, he gave over 1000 performances
all over India.
E R Janardhan also started playing the
saxophone as the main instrument since 1992,
under the guidance of Shri. Kadri Gopalnath-
saxophone Masetro. His first Saxophone concert
was in 1994. Since then he has been
performing at several well known music sabhas
in India.
In 1997, E R Janardhan won the Best Musician
Award instituted by Narada Gana Sabha.
This award was bestowed on him by the
Legendary vocalist Semmangudi Srinivasa Iyer .
In 2003, he won the Best Musician Award
instituted by Music Academy. He has
received great critical acclaims from critics
and media - Tamil & Telugu press, in
particular.
K V S Vinay
Vinay
hails from a
musical family. He is the grandson of
Sangeetha Kalanidhi late Sri T.K.
Jayarama Iyer, eminent violinist and father of
orchestration of Indian
music.
Born and raised in Delhi,
Vinay
had
his initial training from Mrs. Vanaja
Aravamuthan and subsequently
trained under late Sri V. Janakiraman and his
uncle Sri Kovai B.
Dakshinamurthy.
A
concert
performer for over 20 years,
Vinay has had the privilege of accompanying
several leading musicians
and also
performing as a successful solo artiste. He
has featured on national
radio and
TV in India
and has won many awards including an Indian
government scholarship for
training
in music. He is a
B-high graded artiste
of the All India Radio.
Since
moving to the
US, Vinay has had
the opportunity to perform with eminent India-
and US-based artistes in
leading
sabhas across the country. He has also had the
opportunity to
collaborate with
Boston based World Jazz groups ‘Natraj’ and
‘Bangalore.’ Vinay has a
PhD in
economics and lives and works in the Boston
area.
Sriram Natarajan
Sriram
is a versatile artiste and collaborative world
musician specializing in the
classical South Indian instruments Mridangam
(barrel drum) and Kanjira (Frame
Drum).
Sriram started
training on the Mridangam at the age of 9, under
the veteran Guru Sri K
V Maniappan in Mumbai, India. Sriram has
had advanced training from the
Late maestro Sangeetha Kalanidhi Padma Sri
Palghat Raghu. He
is presently under the able tutelage and
guidance of Tanjavur Sri
Murugaboopathi. His
style of accompaniment is very adaptive to both
vocal and instrumental music.
Sriram
regularly accompanies renowned and upcoming
artistes in India during the
December music season in Chennai, India. In the
US and has performed at several
prestigious venues in Boston, Chicago,
Cleveland, Columbus, Connecticut,
Madison, Milwaukee, Philadelphia, New York, New
Jersey and across the state of
Minnesota.
Sriram
is a resident of Excelsior MN, teaches students
across the midwest, and is
the founder of the Layyasaaram Institute of Indian
Arts, a Twin Cities based
non-profit organization.
Ravi
Balasubramanian
Dr. Ravi Balasubramanian is the
most sought-after Ghatam artiste in North America
and is known for his energetic and sensitive
accompaniment and solos. With over five hundred
concerts, Ravi has extensive experience in
Carnatic percussion, including performing on the
Ghatam at top musical institutions such as the
Chennai Music Academy and the Cleveland Aradhana
for over sixteen years. He received the title Yuva
Kala Bharathi in 2003 from Bharat Kalachar, a
music organization in Chennai, for excellence and
dedication in the art of Ghatam. Ravi has expanded
the envelope of using the Ghatam in music, when he
presented a “GhataTarang” concert with seven
Ghatams as the lead melody and percussion
instrument for the first time outside India. Ravi
has had the rare honor and experience of
performing with leading artistes including
Sangitha Kalanidhi vocalists, violinists,
flautists, and mridangists in India, USA, Canada,
Singapore, Malaysia, and Australia.
Ravi received his initial tutelage from Palghat
Sri P. K. Sekar and Sangitha Kalanidhi Dr.
T.K.Murthy and later pursued advanced training
from Sri V.Suresh in Chennai, India. Ravi has
given lecture-demonstrations on the Ghatam in the
University of Pittsburgh and Chatham college in
Pensylvania, and has been featured in several
local and national media articles. He is also Guru
to several students in USA, guiding them in the
vast ocean of Indian percussion theory and
performance. He recently published an article in
Sruti magazine, India’s leading arts magazine,
that was extremely well-received. Ravi received
his doctorate in Robotics from Carnegie Mellon
University and is an Assistant Professor in
Mechanical Engineering at Oregon State University
in Corvallis, Oregon, USA.
