About the Artists

Shertalai KN Ranganatha Sharma

Dr. Shertalai K.N.Renganatha Sharma M.A.,M.Phil.,PhD is a renowned Vocal Artiste in the field of Carnatic music today. He was groomed under the thorough training in the ‘Guru Kula’ system of his father Sri Cherthala Narayana Iyer, who belonged to ‘Semmangudi Tradition’.  Dr.Sharma secured his graduation and post graduation in Music from Calicut University with First Rank and pursued his M.Phil Degree at Madras University(1990) He accomplished his Doctoral Degree at Madurai Kamaraj University..

Dr.Sharma joined ´Sri Sathguru Sangeetha Vidhyalayam´, College and research centre for music, Madurai, in the year 1993 and presently serving as Associate Professor and research guide. With a Concert career extending over three and half decades, Sharma is also engaged in conducting lecture demonstrations, workshops on different aspects of Carnatic music.  Dr.Sharma is an ‘A-Top’Grade Vocal Artist of All India Radio and Doordarshan.

All India Radio South Zone Hook-Up concerts, Radio Sangeeth Sammelan concerts, and A.I.R.National Programmes are some of the prestigious slots in AIR. Along with many leading prestigious sabhas in Chennai, it is worth mentioning that, Music academy has been honoring Dr Sharma, by giving the senior concert slot in the December Margazhi fest continuously.  

“Best Raga Alapana”,  “Best outstanding vocalist” – in the margazhi fest 2008 and 2010 by Music Academy, Chennai., Meritorious Award by Maharajapuram Santhanam Trust, Kerala Sangeetha Nataka Academy Award (2011) etc are some of the awards bestowed on Dr Sharma.  Some of the titles bagged by Dr Sharma are Ragalaya kalanidhi(dubai), Asthanavidwan of kanchi mutt ,sangeethasri(travancore music society, harippad), isaijnana thilakam(udumalaipettai).

Among so many albums Malayala Manorama has released albums of Dr.Sharma like Ragam Tanam Pallavi, Gems of Tyagaraja, Mohiyattam padams, and Saraswathi Compositions.  Married to Smt.Mohana, also a professional singer in Carnatic Music, and is blessed with two children who are also earnestly involved in learning Carnatic Music.

B U Ganesh Prasad

B.U.Ganesh Prasad hails from a family of connoisseurs of classical music. An accomplished vocalist himself he is able to vocalize his violin style with fluency. He initially trained under Basavanagudi Nataraj & vocal guidance from Bangalore S. Shankar.  It was under the able guidance of violin maestro V.V.Subramaniam, Ganesh was able to further hone & nurture his skills. He is currently the disciple of Sangeetha Kalacharya P.S.Narayanasway of Semmangudi school.

Acknowledged as a violinist par excellence ,Ganesh Prasad is an “A” graded artist of All India Radio & Doordarshan .He has accompanied legendary musicians in the field of Carnatic music including , D.K.Pattamal,Nedunuri Krishna murthy, T.V.Shankaranarayanan, Madurai T.N.Sheshagopalan,R.K.Srikantan & among the present day top artists like Bombay Jaysree,Sudha Raghunathan,Sanjay Subramaniam,T.M.Krishna to name a few. He has been featured in many commercial CD's & DVD's with various artists & also has produced a violin solo album called as Blissful Strings.

Ganesh Prasad has won many awards & accolades from prestigious music institutions including,
    •    The best violinist award from MUSIC ACADEMY of Madras;
    •    The best violinist award from Sri Krishna Ghana Sabha Madras ;
    •    Ananya Yuva Puraskar award;
    •    Title of NADA OLI and
    •    Title of NADA KALA VIPANCHEE

Tanjavoor Murugaboopathi

Thanjavur Murugaboopathi belongs to a family of artists and musicians. 

He  had  his  initial  training  under  Sri  T.R.Srinivasan,  a  Mridangam  Vidwan  and Lecturer in the Tamilnadu Government Music College.  After receiving the 'Vadhya Visharada' with distinction from the Music College, he came under the guidance of Late Sri Tanjore Upendran.  He learnt from the late maestro in the age old tradition of Gurukulavasam. 

Sri Murugaboopathi has won numerous awards including the Vadya Kalaimani from the  Music  College,  Chennai,  the  Laya  Kala  Ratna  from  the  Tiruppur  Murugan Mandram,  the  Best  Artiste  Award  from  the  South  Indian  Music  Club,  Andhra Pradesh, the Music Academy and the Sivan Mandram, Sydney, Australia.  

Murugaboopathi can adapt his playing to any style of singing or instrumental music and  has  won  the  appreciation  of  the  artists  as  well  as  the  rasikas.    With  his uncompromising  orthodox  style  of  playing  he  gracefully  blends  the  best  of  the Pazhani Subramania Pillai and the Palghat Mani Iyer schools making him one of the most sought after mridangam players today.   Boopathi  as  he  is fondly  known  with  his  contemporaries,  regularly  accompanies leading artists such as Sangeetha Kalnidhis Shri Madurai T.N. Seshagopalan, Dr. N. Ramani,  Shri  T  V  Sankaranarayan,  the  Hyderabad  Brothers,  Mandolin  Srinivas, Sudha Ragunathan, and other contemporary artists such as Sanjay Subramaniam, T M Krishna, Bombay Jayashri and Aruna Sayeeram to name a few.

Within India, he has performed in various venues in most metros including New Delhi, Kolkata, Mumbai, Hyderabad, Bengaluru, Thiruvananthapuram and across Tamil Nadu. Internationally, he is widely travelled on tour with the above reputed artists in North America including USA and Canada, in Europe including Great Britain, Scotland, Germany, Spain, Belgium, Turkey, South Africa, the Middle East at Dubai, Muscat, and Doha, South East Asia in Singapore and Malaysia, Australia and New Zealand.
